Instagram Growth Tips
When you are a beginner on Instagram it can seem daunting to quickly grow your account. Once you have a grasp on Instagram, I have five Instagram growth tips.
#1 Instagram Live
Does the idea of sharing an Instagram Live make you nervous? Well, it’s time to shake off the jitters! Because people want to connect with you and get to know the face behind your brand.
Sure, it can seem nerve-wracking to go live – anything could go wrong! I’ve messed up plenty of times, from dropping my phone to holding it at the wrong angle. But the authenticity can help you build stronger relationships with your followers — a big win for the Instagram algorithm.
When you’re feeling more confident on Instagram Live, after the broadcast you can even share soundbites on Instagram Stories. That’s what I did here, and it was a great way to continue the conversation.
#2 Instagram Takeover
Growing your audience on Instagram doesn’t have to be a solo activity. Even if you’re new to Instagram, you can reach out to other business owners or people in similar industries to see about partnering up for an Instagram takeover.
It’s an easy way to double your audience and reach out to other people and brands in your niche. But, before you reach out to someone about an Instagram takeover, think about the value this will provide for all of your followers. People should always walk away from your Instagram Stories feeling like they gained something, whether that’s knowledge or a bright spot in their day.
When I’m “taking over” someone’s Instagram account, one of the first things I usually do is share something that drives a lot of engagement. For example, when I did a takeover for Digital Marketer I shared this question sticker. It was an easy way to open up the conversation and make sure I was connecting with their audience in an authentic, interesting way.
#3 Celebrate Community Members
There’s no denying that Instagram is a great place to show off your amazing products and brands. Another important strategy for your Instagram growth tips is to celebrate your community members.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it because it’s true, the more you shine the light on others, the more it shines on you. That’s why whenever it’s possible I love to give a shoutout to my amazing clients and followers.
Take, for example, this Instagram Story I shared about Modern Muffin. Claire is an amazing business owner and creative, and that’s why I wanted to highlight her on IGTV. It’s not just about the products or services you sell on Instagram, it’s equally important that you focus on your community.
#4 Put Your Instagram Handle on Printed Materials
I know, this tip might seem obvious. But you would be amazed at the number of businesses and brands I’ve seen who don’t put their Instagram handle on any of their materials.
From the shopping bag to business cards, you need to make it easy for people to find your Instagram handle. You might think people will search for you on Instagram. But that’s just not the case.
Don’t be afraid to remind your customers to follow you on Instagram. You can even ask them to tag you if they love your product or service. Then you’ll have plenty of great user-generated-content to choose from and share.
#5 Invite Guests into Your Instagram Stories
Remember when I just mentioned shining the light on others? Well, here it is again. In addition to highlighting your favorite brands or businesses, invite them to be a guest in your Instagram Stories.

Stay Active in All of the Instagram Neighborhoods
Exposure is key when you’re new on Instagram. That’s why it’s important that you’re active in all of the Instagram neighborhoods: the feed, Instagram Stories, IGTV, and Instagram Live. Wherever your followers hang out, they’ll see your content.
In other words, show up frequently and with intention. Your ideal followers will be drawn to your content and, after awhile, will start coming back to learn more.
How to Pin an Instagram Live Title
Circling back to the point about consistency as part of your Instagram growth tips, this also applies to the way you format your content. For example, one easy way to add consistency to your Instagram Live is by “pinning” the broadcast title. Here’s how to do it:
- First, when your broadcast is live type the Instagram Live title in the comments
- Then, once it’s posted, hold your finger down on the comment to pin it to the top of your feed
Now when people tune into your broadcast, the Instagram Live title will be the first thing they see. Then they’ll instantly know the purpose of the broadcast and why they should stick around and watch.
